President, PM reiterate commitment to eliminate drugs from society

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated their unwavering commitment to eliminate the menace of drugs and strengthen united efforts in this regard.

In their separate messages on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking being observed today (Thursday), they called for collective efforts on part of all stakeholders to eradicate drug abuse from society.        

The President and Prime Minister emphasized collaboration among government institutions, civil society, the private sector, and international partners to eradicate drug abuse and illicit trafficking.                                         

The President said Pakistan remains resolute in its fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He said the Anti-Narcotics Force, under the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, has played a significant role in this endeavor.               

He underscored the need to raise awareness and educate the citizens especially youth about the dangers of drug abuse to build a safer and healthier society. 

He urged all citizens to unite in eliminating drugs and support national efforts in this regard.

In his message, the Prime Minister said government is fully cognizant of the challenge and is actively working to eliminate this menace but success of these efforts requires collective resolve of individuals, society and community.

He said drug abuse and trafficking remains absolutely unacceptable in our international obligations, national legal infrastructure and societal norms.

He said we pay tribute to the services of law enforcement agencies which have not only sacrificed their lives while nabbing these networks but have also worked tirelessly to achieve the goal of narcotics-free Pakistan to eradicate the menace.
