UN Chief calls for immediate, permanent ceasefire to end hostilities in Sudan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to end the hostilities in Sudan. 

The UN Chief told a Security Council meeting that the fighting must stop immediately for peace and it is incumbent on Sudanese leaders to put the interests of their people their top priority. 

Saudi Arabia has also joined the mediation efforts by the international community to end the conflict. The Saudi government is trying to arrange a meeting of the leaders of the warring groups in Riyadh soon to bring an end to the fighting.

According to Sudan health ministry more than 600 people have been killed in the conflict while over 4,000 people have been injured.
