Jordan’s King Abdullah has warned of a wider regional war if Israel presses on with its military campaign in the Gaza Strip during Ramadan.

At a meeting with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, Abdullah emphasized the need for a cease-fire in Gaza and protection of innocent civilians.

A statement from Abbas' office said the president reiterated his rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land saying Gaza is integral part of Palestine and cannot be cut off in any way.

He also emphasized the need to preserve the historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to ensure the Palestinians right of worship in it during Ramadan.
