The 79th Founding Day anniversary of the state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is being celebrated today with a renewed pledge to continue struggle until the liberation of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and accession of the whole territory to Pakistan.

Today is a general public holiday throughout the state.

The day dawned with a 21-gun salute in the state capital Muzaffarabad

The Day is celebrated in commemoration of freedom from the Dogra regime on the 24th of October in 1947. 

Simple but impressive flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at all district and divisional headquarters.   

In the state capital, Muzaffarabad, the main function of the day will be held at the Parade Ground, where President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Khan and Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gilani will hoist the national flag.
