Met Office, NDMA forecast rain & thunderstorms from Thursday

The Met Office and NDMA's weather outlook have forecast a westerly wave in the country from Thursday till Tuesday bringing significant rainfall and thunderstorms.  

Regions in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir are expected to face heavy to moderate rains, windstorms, and hailstorms, with snowfall over high mountains.

These weather systems will cause rain, wind and thunderstorm in most districts of Balochistan from today till Saturday and in some districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow till Monday.         

Hailstorm is also expected at isolated places. 

Rain, windstorm and thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is also expected in Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir with snowfall over high mountains from Friday till Monday.  

Heavy to moderate rain is expected  in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/ Rawalpindi and central and some parts of southern Punjab from Friday till Monday.         

The NDMA has advised preparedness for potential floods and landslides, especially in Upper KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan and has asked authorities to ensure readiness to respond to emergencies, with machinery and staff pre-positioned in vulnerable areas.           

Residents near riverbanks and nullahs should be aware of rising water levels and evacuate if necessary.

Citizens have been urged to exercise caution, avoid weak structures and waterways, and stay updated on weather conditions.
