
At the United Nations, Pakistan has reiterated the call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
The call was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar while delivering the national statement at UN Security-Council's meeting on 'The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question' in New York today.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged the UN Security Council and broader international community to act decisively, uphold human dignity, ensure accountability and deliver justice.
He said Pakistan demands establishing an international protection mechanism and putting a categoric end to any forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands while upholding the right to return for refugees in accordance with international law.
The Deputy Prime Minister called for full unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza and immediate lifting of blockade to allow life-saving to reach those in need.
He said suffering of Palestinian people is a stain on our conscience. Time for words is over, and time for action is now.
Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering support for Palestinian people in their just struggle for dignity, justice and self-determination through establishment of sovereign, independent and contiguous Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and al Quds al Sharif as its capital.
He said Pakistan welcomes the two-state solution conference chaired by Saudi Arabia and France and also commends the recent recognitions of State of Palestine by numerous UN member states which reflects adherence to justice and principles of international law. On this note, Ishaq Dar mentioned that Pakistan is amongst the first few countries to recognize state of Palestine following a declaration of independence in 1948.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this positive momentum must be sustained with resolute determination to achieve just and lasting solution to the Palestine Question.
