IIOJK: 34th martyrdom anniversary of martyrs of Gaw Kadal massacre being observed today
January 21, 2024

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, thirty fourth martyrdom anniversary of the martyrs of Gaw Kadal massacre is being observed on Sunday.

Over fifty innocent people were martyred and hundreds others were injured when Indian troops had opened fire on peaceful protesters in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990.

The demonstrators were protesting against the molestation of several women by Indian troops in the area.

The illegally detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, and General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Irfani, in their messages from jails paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal on the eve of their martyrdom anniversaries.

They also urged the Kashmiris to observe Indian Republic Day on 26th January as a Black Day to convey the message to the world that India's claims of being a democratic republic are hollow as it continues to deny them their right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, Justice continues to elude the victims of Gaw Kadal massacre victims in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) despite the passage of 34 years.

A report released by Kashmir Media Service, today, said that Indian troops had committed scores of brutal massacres since 1989 in IIOJK.

The report pointed out that the aim of committing massacres was to instill fear among the people of Kashmir, adding that the large-scale killings of the Kashmiris were also meant to change the demography of the territory by turning its Muslim majority status into a minority.
