Pakistan and Canada have agreed to expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Islamabad today.

The two sides discussed Pakistan-Canada relations, trade, security cooperation, and ways to enhance bilateral engagement.

They also exchanged views on cooperation to curb illegal immigration, human trafficking, and cybercrime. The meeting reviewed proposals for training and exchange programmes for officers of the law enforcement agencies.

Regional developments also came under discussion during the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan is keen to strengthen its relations with Canada across all sectors.

He said the Pakistani community in Canada is playing an active role in the development and prosperity of both countries.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the proposed agreement to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest with Canada will further strengthen bilateral relations.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said her country attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan and is keen to further promote bilateral ties.

She emphasized the need to develop a framework to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
