Dr. Hassan Zafar (Economic Expert):Pakistan’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government meeting in in Dushanbe, Tajikistan is very important in the background of prevailing regional and international geo-political and geo-economic situation. Actually, a lot of strategic and geo-strategic developments are taking place at regional and international level. For example, Russian Interior Minister along with a high-powered delegation paid a crucial visit to Pakistan a few days back. Russian embassy said in a statement that Moscow and Islamabad held talks on the issue of normalization of ties with Afghan Taliban regime. Both Pakistan and Russia also talks on opening trade between Pakistan and Central Asia via Afghanistan because blocked trade route by Pakistan is also hurting trade between Central Asia and even Russia. Moreover, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov is also on a visit to Iran. War between US and Iran and tension in gulf region is also ongoing. So, regional powers are also repositioning. In this background, SCO meeting in Dushanbe is very important. In this context, presence of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar at SCO meeting in Dushanbe is very important and it is sending a strong message to the concerned quarters of the world. Transit trade routes of Pakistan with Iran and Afghanistan are very important for the world, but Afghan fanatic and hardliner Taliban regime has taken a specific position which is not hurting Pakistan and world’s interests.
