United States considering restrictions on Indian truck drivers
July 19, 2026

The United States is considering restrictions on Indian truck drivers following concerns over involvement in illegal activities, including unlicensed driving and drug trafficking.

According to Indian newspaper India Today, US President Donald Trump has proposed replacing immigrant truck drivers with former US military personnel.

The report said the proposed move could affect around 150,000 Indian truck drivers working in the United States.

The US President said his administration would take historic action against illegal immigrant truck drivers whose actions contribute to fatal road accidents.

He said that some such drivers cannot even read road signs, are involved in drug abuse, and enter the country illegally before driving on American roads.

India Today reported that Indian truck drivers in the US are facing increased scrutiny due to their involvement in serious accidents and drug trafficking cases.

The report added that Indian nationals in several countries have faced restrictions and deportations amid concerns over rising criminal activities.
