
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the deployment of the Frontier Corps in Balochistan’s Rakhshan Division to establish a security corridor for the protection of mineral resources.
He was chairing a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee on the National Action Plan in Quetta today.
The Prime Minister said the corridor will include additional Frontier Corps wings, security check posts on highways, surveillance grids and border posts.
He said Pakistan is rich in natural resources, particularly minerals, adding that maintaining a secure environment in Balochistan is essential to sustain the confidence of local and international companies working in the mineral sector.
Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the armed forces for their efforts in counter-terrorism operations across Balochistan and the rest of the country.
He also appreciated Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and his team for undertaking various public welfare initiatives in the province.
Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Balochistan government’s efforts to ensure transparency and merit in appointments within the district administration. He said modern training and the use of new technologies for police and other law enforcement agencies are vital to eliminate terrorism.
The Prime Minister said the Government of Pakistan is taking various steps to effectively integrate and empower Balochistan’s youth and engage them in positive activities.
He said these measures include expansion of educational opportunities, technical and vocational training, employment generation, promotion of sports and youth programmes, scholarships, digital skills training and inclusion of youth in decision-making processes.
Shehbaz Sharif said special focus is also being given to development projects in infrastructure, education, health and communications sectors in Balochistan to provide better facilities and equal opportunities for the progress of the youth.
He said the government, through constructive engagement and integration, is striving to enable the youth to play their active role in national development.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the security situation in Balochistan, progress on counter-terrorism measures, governance reforms, digitization initiatives, measures for a cashless economy and development projects.
The meeting was informed that all institutions are actively working for the eradication of terrorism, and several youth welfare and skills development programmes are underway in the province.
It was said that no polio case has been reported in Balochistan since November 2024.
The meeting was told that several health projects, including a cancer institute, dialysis centre and trauma centre, have become operational, while work on additional facilities is continuing.
It was said that ninety-nine percent of schools in Balochistan are currently open and educational activities are continuing.
The meeting was apprised that over fifteen thousand households have benefited from the solar energy project in the province, resulting in savings of around one hundred and five billion rupees so far.
The meeting was attended by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Federal Ministers, including Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Mohsin Naqvi, Khalid Magsi, Jam Kamal Khan and Attaullah Tarar, along with Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah and senior officials of relevant institutions.
