Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik has underscored the importance of moving beyond a reactive response to rainfall and floods towards sustained and long-term urban resilience planning.

He said this in a seminar titled "Urban Flood Resilience Measures - Vision 2027: Beyond the Rains and Floods" in Islamabad.

The Chairman NDMA also emphasized the need for a proactive approach to urban flood management, with greater focus on preparedness, infrastructure resilience, institutional ownership and timely implementation of identified interventions.

During the seminar, it was highlighted that urban flooding can be tackled through enhancing drainage capacity, urban development, infrastructure maintenance, stormwater management and institutional coordination.
