UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the United States and Iran to resume negotiations for a durable settlement to the conflict in Gulf region. 

Speaking at a briefing in New York, the Secretary Generals' spokesman Stephane Dujarric said he continues to urge Iran and the United States to avoid military action and resume talks as soon as possible.
