US, Iran electronically sign historic Islamabad MoU: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the historic ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ has been electronically signed between the United States and Iran. 

In a post on X, he said the Memorandum has been signed by the Presidents of both the countries and it was also endorsed by him as the mediator.

He said the signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

The Prime Minister said Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States will immediately lift the naval blockade.

He said Pakistan with the support of co-mediator Qatar will host the official ceremony tomorrow in Switzerland, to commemorate this landmark event and commence with the technical level talks.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulated leaders of the United States and Iran and appreciated their sincere efforts in reaching the historic Memorandum of Agreement.

He also mentioned Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, whose tireless efforts, selfless dedication and instrumental role were critical in facilitating this breakthrough and advancing the cause of peace and regional stability.
