Prominent international daily the New York Times reports that India is stalling the World Health Organization's efforts to publicize a report about global death toll due to coronavirus.

In an article, the paper writes that India is delaying the report by disputing the calculation of its citizens who died due to pandemic to prevent it from becoming public. The paper notes that this effort by India makes clear that pandemic data is a sensitive issue for the Modi government.

The WHO report calculates a total of 15 million people died globally by the end of 2021 out of which four million deaths were in India. On the other hand, Indian government's count stands at 520,000.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the report on twitter and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that 4 million Indians died during the pandemic due to the government's negligence but Modi neither speaks the truth, nor lets others speak and still lies that no one died due to oxygen shortage.
