Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatization in Islamabad today to review key matters in the power sector.

The committee discussed the privatization of three distribution companies (DISCOs) in Islamabad, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad to enhance efficiency and financial sustainability.

It approved the transaction structure, proposing an outright sale of 51 to 100 percent of share capital in each DISCO, along with management control. The proposal will be sent to the cabinet for final approval.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the initiative aims to strengthen service delivery, ensure reliable electricity supply, and bring private sector efficiency to the power distribution system.
