Mirza Ikhtiar Baig (Economic Expert): Three sectors of economy agriculture, housing and SMEs were not getting flourishing due to lack of banks’ loans and financing. Banks were reluctant to issue financing to SMEs. Therefore, State Bank of Pakistan fixes loan target for banks for these sectors. In case of failure, state bank of Pakistan may fine these banks. Moreover, rate of interests on loans must also be reasonable or concessional, so that these sectors may flourish. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has timely addressed these issues and it will help these sectors to flourish in coming days. In this regard, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on access to finance for agriculture, housing and SME sectors. The Prime Minister appreciated banks actively participating in loan disbursement for these priority national development sectors.
