Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called for continuity of policies for achieving sustainable development in the country.
He was speaking at the opening session of 39th Annual Conference of the Pakistan Society of Development Economists organized by Pakistan Institute of Development Economics in Islamabad today.
Ahsan Iqbal said the future of a Pakistani export order should not depend on the future of a political administration. He also outlined a roadmap for Pakistan's one billion dollar export ambition.
The Minister said Pakistan's economic sovereignty depends on its ability to earn the resources needed to finance development.
He said Pakistan could overcome recurring external-account pressures by expanding productive capacity and competitiveness while safeguarding macroeconomic stability.
Ahsan Iqbal also stressed the need for export clusters that connect producers with specialized suppliers, skilled workers, universities, testing laboratories, finance, logistics and international buyers.
