Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has emphasized the need for sustainable and innovative water management strategies, including rainwater harvesting, to tackle the growing challenges posed by climate change.

Talking to environmentalist and social activist Shahdia Kausar Farooq in Islamabad, he said Pakistan is increasingly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, including floods, heavy rainfall and recurring droughts, which are putting pressure on communities and threatening food security.

The Minister said water conservation and the restoration of declining groundwater levels must be accelerated alongside the efficient use of available water resources.

He announced that rainwater harvesting systems will be installed on the rooftops of major buildings under the Ministry of Housing and Works to strengthen water conservation and enhance climate resilience.
