NA continues discussion on Federal Budget 2025-26

The National Assembly is continuing discussion on the budget 2025-25.

Participating in the debate, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig opposed the increase in withholding tax on markup, terming it unjust for the people having savings accounts. He also opposed tax on solar panels.  

Asad Qaiser opposed the proposed sales tax on merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from next year, and asked for withdrawing this tax.  He also called for determining a minimum support price for tobacco to provide relief to tobacco growers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Farooq Sattar demanded reduction in prices of electricity and gas.

Taking the floor, Syed Naveed Qamar recommended reviewing the energy and agriculture policies, and emphasized providing more relief to farmers.

Zartaj Gul Wazir called for more focus on allocations for human rights and empowerment of women and youth in the budget. 

Jamal Shah Kakar commended the budget as favorable, and emphasized the need to ensure that allocation for Balochistan is used transparently so its benefits reach every nook and corner of the province.                         

Syeda Shehla Raza suggested that budget should be spent on improving facilities and standard of education in existing universities instead of establishing new ones. She appreciated that the tax exemption slab on cash withdrawals has been increased to 75,000 rupees from 50,000.       

Asyia Naz Tanoli lauded the government for presenting a balanced budget and further amplifying the efforts for economic stability.  

Sharmila Faruqui proposed that steps should be taken to reduce national debt.

She also called for more relief for the salaried class in the budget.

Jamal Raisani appreciated many budgetary proposals including the growth target, agri reforms and increase in defence allocation.

He recommended that there should be early childhood centres, vocational training

Others who participated in the budget debate included Sana Ullah Khan Mastikhel, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, Muhammad Aslam Ghumman, Mir Jamal Raisani, Daniyal Chaudhary, Sajid Khan, Umair Khan Niazi.
