Pakistan wants stable, prosperous Afghanistan: Gilani
February 13, 2026

Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani says violation of binding treaties is eroding respect for International Law.

He was talking to President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Dr Tulia Ackson on the margins of the two-day IPU Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations in New York today.

During the meeting, the Chairman Senate underlined that the unimplemented UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and weaponization of water by India undermined international law, UN Charter and sanctity of international treaties, with grave consequences for peace and stability in South Asia.

Terming the Indian illegal action of putting in abeyance the Indus Waters Treaty as a dangerous precedent, he emphasized that this blatant violation of international law endangers the lives and livelihoods of millions of Pakistanis.

The Chairman Senate said Pakistan wants stable and prosperous Afghanistan, however, the use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan is deeply troubling. He said there is a clear pattern of terrorist attacks in Pakistan emanating from Afghanistan where a plethora of terrorist groups including TTP, BLA, Al-Qaeda and ISIL-K are operating with total impunity with the Taliban failing to fulfill its international obligations on counter-terrorism.

In her remark, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Dr Tulia Ackson lauded Pakistan's role as a promoter of dialogue in multilateral diplomacy.
