
Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan Railways into a modern and efficient institution to ensure long-term improvement in the country’s transport sector.
Talking to the media after inaugurating an upgraded Safari Train rake at Rawalpindi Railway Station today, he said services, including the Safari Train, are being upgraded in line with the international standards.
The Minister said that work is under way on railway infrastructure projects worth about two billion dollars aimed at overall system improvement.
He said measures are being taken to reduce travel time between Lahore and Karachi by five hours, while track upgradation in Lahore Division is nearing completion at an estimated cost of 250 billion rupees.
Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said that, in collaboration with the Sindh Government, upgradation of Rohri Junction will soon begin to modernize the historic railway hub.
