A report by UK-based Indian Muslim Council says that there is an alarming increase in the instances of hate speech and divisive rhetoric by Hindutva politicians in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the report titled Portfolios of Hate shows that hate speech instances have increased more than double during the BJP-led government’s second term from 2019 to 2024.

The report scrutinizes hate speech by thirty six BJP candidates for the ongoing 2024 elections, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi topping the list.

It cautions that this institutionalized pattern not only undermines democratic principles but poses a threat to social cohesion in India.
