Director General of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Shamshad Akhtar, has been martyred in a terrorist attack by unidentified gunmen in Tank district.

According to the commission's spokesperson, the chief election commissioner, members and employees of the Election Commission have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Shamshad Akhtar was an honest, noble and dutiful officer. He had no personal enmity with anyone, and the incident was a clear case of targeted killing.
