The National Disaster Management Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a coordinated national strategy to protect lives, property, and critical national infrastructure during the 2026 monsoon season.

The commitment was reiterated at the second meeting of the Emergency Response Committee, held at the NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad today to review the country's preparedness for the 2026 monsoon season. The committee was constituted on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The committee reviewed the preparedness and emergency response measures undertaken by the relevant departments for the 2026 monsoon season.

The provincial authorities briefed the participants on their preparedness to deal with potential monsoon-related hazards and the arrangements made to ensure safe tourism in the northern areas.

The meeting was informed that there are risks of glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, and debris flows in the northern regions during the monsoon season.

The participants also reviewed the national coordination and timely response mechanism for dealing with monsoon-related emergencies across the country.

The meeting underscored the importance of advance planning, timely preventive measures and effective coordination among all relevant institutions to minimize the impact of potential disasters.
