The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for the country's northern regions from today to 15th of this month.

According to the NDMA, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, raising the risk of localized flash floods.

Increased water flows are also expected in streams, nullahs and seasonal waterways in mountainous areas.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to take precautionary measures, while tourists and travellers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly regions during heavy rainfall.

The NEOC has also issued a landslide alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and adjoining mountainous areas from 12th to 15th of this month, warning of possible travel disruptions on the Karakoram Highway and Jaglot-Skardu Road.

District administrations and emergency response agencies have been directed to remain on alert and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation.
