Asim Iftikhar Ahmad to be next foreign secretary of Pakistan

Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, will be the next Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in a post on social media platform X today [Wednesday].

He further said the current Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Amna Baloch, will retire from government service on the 17th of this month.

Ishaq Dar expressed confidence that, under Asim Iftikhar's leadership, the Foreign Office will continue to advance Pakistan's interests with clarity, professionalism and purpose, building on the important work undertaken by Ambassador Amna Baloch and all her predecessors.

The Deputy Prime Minister also commended Amna Baloch for her dedicated service and leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a consequential period in Pakistan's diplomatic history.

He said Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service and carries with her our warmest wishes. She will assume charge as Pakistan's Ambassador to Türkiye after retirement.

Ishaq Dar highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the aforesaid assignments.
