The four members of the Middle East Quartet, the US, Russia, the EU and the UN have expressed deep concern over violence in Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Envoys call upon Israeli authorities to exercise restraint and to avoid measures that would further escalate the situation.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Oman have denounced Israeli plans to evict Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem amid soaring violence in the city.

More than fifty Palestinians were injured when Israeli police attacked them at the Damascus Gate after the Taraweeh prayer in Al-Aqsa Mosque last night.

Despite international pleas the violence has continued with dozens more people injured as Israeli police fired water cannon and rubber bullets to disperse Palestinian protesters in east Jerusalem.
