
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that promoting clean, affordable and sustainable energy through solar power is an important component of the national energy policy.
He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today regarding Gilgit Baltistan's 100 MW solar power project.
Shehbaz Sharif said 100 MW solar project is a gift from the federal government to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He directed Power Division to fulfill its responsibility for timely completion of the project.
He also instructed that complete transparency be ensured in the procurement process for the solar project. He said all payments be made only after third-party validation.
The meeting was briefed on progress of Gilgit-Baltistan solar power project. It was informed that under the project, eighteen MW of rooftop solar systems, including battery storage, will be installed on four hundred and ninety nine government buildings by December this year.
It was informed that PC-I for the 82 MW utility-scale solar project has been submitted to ECNEC for approval. It will benefit approximately 1.3 million people.
