April 08, 2026

Due to successful diplomacy of Pakistan, the US President Donald Trump has agreed to a proposed two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran.

In a statement issued by the White House, the US President said he agreed to suspend the attack and bombing on Iran for a period of two weeks following conversations with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He said this will be a two sided ceasefire.

Donald Trump said the US has already met and exceeded all military objectives and is very far along with a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran.

The US President said almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran but a two week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and consummated.

Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had requested US President Donald Trump to extend its deadline given to Iran for two weeks, besides urging Iran to open Strait of Hormuz for the same period as a goodwill gesture.

Prime Minister in a post on his X handle had said diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East were progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future.

Meanwhile, Iran agreed to the ceasefire and has announced to open the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a statement, said Iran's Supreme National Security Council has endorsed the ceasefire.

Abbas Araghchi said during the two week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible. He said this will take place through coordination with Iran's armed forces.
