Consultant Psychologist Dr. Humaira Jami says the incumbent government has taken significant measures to ensure equal opportunities for gender-diverse individuals, including transgender persons and Khawajasira, to protect their rights and promote their inclusion in mainstream society.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan Correspondent Qasim Bukhari, Dr. Humaira Jami said her research on transgender persons enabled her to serve as an expert psychologist in NADRA's and the Pakistan Supreme Court's consultative process for granting the right to identity and the provision of the ‘X’ card.

She said her recommendations in these consultative forums were aimed at supporting evidence-based policymaking, strengthening the legal recognition of transgender persons, and safeguarding their fundamental rights.

She appreciated the government's initiatives for the socio-economic empowerment of transgender persons.
