British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced to quit as prime minister and Conservative leader today (Thursday) after he was abandoned by ministers and most of his party lawmakers.

Speaking outside his office 10 Downing, Johnson said, it is clearly now the will of Conservative MPs that there should be a new leader.

Boris Johnson said he will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the party chooses his successor.

More than 50 lawmakers had resigned from Johnson's government this week, saying the scandal-plagued Prime Minister is no longer fit to lead the country.
