UN Chief calls for universal digital connectivity

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged digital tech industrialists to devise new practical plans to achieve universal digital connectivity.    

Speaking via video message at the opening of the World Telecommunication Development Conference in Rwanda's capital Kigali, Guterres said though, the potential of digital technologies is tremendous; but we have many challenges.

Over one third of humanity still has no access to the internet causing social, economic and gender divides.

He tasked the participants of summit to map out a new action plan to bring the nearly 3 billion unconnected people into the global digital community.

The conference, organized by the International Telecommunication Union, will continue till 16th of this month.
