Pakistan has extended its full support to the candidature of Bangladesh for membership of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The support was extended during the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Bangladeshi representative Jaharat Adib Chowdhury subsequently secured a majority of votes and was elected to the IPU Executive Committee.

Congratulating the Bangladeshi delegation, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said Pakistan looks forward to further strengthening parliamentary engagement with Bangladesh.
