Punjab Agriculture Department has initiated a "High Efficiency Irrigation System" in the province for introducing new modes of irrigation aimed at averting wastage of water.

Official sources told APP that the system would enable growers to save 50 percent irrigation water, besides 25 percent canal water.

The provincial government is providing 60 percent subsidy to the farmers for installation of drip sprinkler system.
