The United States has announced that it is pausing certain foreign assistance programs that benefit the government of Niger.

In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said we reiterate our call for the immediate restoration of Niger's democratically elected government.

The move comes after a military junta overthrew Niger's democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum and his government on 26th of last month.
