President Trump's remarks spotlight India's unfair trade practices
June 05, 2026

United States President Donald Trump's recent remarks have brought India's unfavourable trade practices into the global spotlight.

In a statement, President Donald Trump said that India had benefited from its trade relationship with the United States for many years by imposing heavy tariffs on American goods while offering little in return.

He claimed that India had at times unilaterally imposed tariffs of up to 200 percent on U.S. products. He said the situation has now changed and the United States is generating significant revenue from trade with India. Trump also noted that the United States had previously imposed substantial tariffs on India in response to its one-sided trade policies.

According to analysts, India not only engages in unfair trade practices but also conceals facts and acts deceptively on sensitive issues such as terrorism. They argue that Trump's statement indicates that Modi government may be moving toward a one-sided agreement that could have serious economic consequences for the Indian people.

The U.S. President's anti-India statements have also exposed the reality behind all claims of strong relations between New Delhi and Washington.
