Right to self-determination is inalienable right of Kashmiris: Analysts
February 05, 2023

Dr. Muhammad Faisal (Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany): The issue of Kashmir is very close to the hearts and minds of the people of Pakistan. Generally, three specific days in a year are being marked in support of the Kashmiri people. 5th Feb, 5th August and 27th October every year across the globe. On these days, the people around the world stand together and remind the international community of their promises made to the people of Kashmir. The Kashmiri people have all the right to decide their fate and the Kashmir issue must be resolved according to their wishes. So far, India has not fulfilled its promise regarding Kashmiri people's right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions. But in my opinion, it is a continued process and sooner or later, India will have to give this right to Kashmiris people for which they have been struggling for decades.

Najam-us-Saqib (Former Ambassador): Kashmir issue is the oldest agenda on the UN charter and the international capitals are sensitizing the issue at multiple fora. Kashmir issue is very much alive due to the fact that Pakistan is continuously highlighting the Kashmir issue at multiple international fora. The friendly countries of Pakistan have supported the narrative of Pakistan on Kashmir and condemned the illegal Indian occupation in the Kashmir valley. On 5th August 2019, when Indian government unilaterally and illegally abrogated article 370 and 35-A in order to change the demography of the occupied valley, it was and is being widely condemned throughout the world. World must realize the sensitivity of this issue and ensure smooth implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir according to which Kashmiri people must be given their right to self-determination.

Syed Yousaf Naseem (Hurriyet Leader): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Azad Jammu and Kashmir and addressed the special session of the AJK Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad. The Prime Minister also attended a meeting of Hurriyet Leaders AJK Chapter and and discussed the issue with them in detail. There is no doubt that Pakistan is playing its effective role in highlighting the Kashmir dispute and striving to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN charter. The entire Hurriyet Leadership in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is put behind the bars by Indian authorities. It is the right time that delegations from Pakistan visit the world capitals and expose cruel Indian face, its human rights violations and massive genocide in the occupied valley by the Indian forces in front of the world.

Azeem Chaudhary (Senior Kashmiri Journalist): The international community needs to play an important role in resolving the Kashmir dispute as it is vital for regional peace and stability. The Prime Minister has rightly stated that political stability in the region is vital for effectively pursuing the Kashmir dispute. The world must realize that Kashmir is the main bone of contention between two nuclear states and any escalation between the two countries could have negative impacts on the world. Hence the implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir is a test case for the international community, if it fails in ensuring action on the resolutions , there will be a question mark on the credibility of this prestigious world forum.
