NDMA issues alert for expected weather conditions in various parts of country

The National Emergencies Operation Center of NDMA has issued an alert regarding the expected weather conditions and potential hazards in various areas of the country, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, during the next twelve to twenty-four hours.

Isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms are expected in parts of Punjab, including Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Khushab, Jhang, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and surrounding areas.

Similarly, isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms are likely in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Swabi, Kalam, Mingora, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and surrounding areas.

In parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms are expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar, Kharmang, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli, Poonch, Mirpur, Bhimber, and surrounding areas. Isolated hailstorm may also occur during this time period.

In northern areas, there is a risk of glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, and increased water flow in streams and rivers. Due to rainfall, flooding, and landslides, road closures are also possible.

The road links, including Shimshal Valley, Attabad Lake, Karimabad, Gulmit, Shishkat Bala, and Passu, have been identified as sensitive.

There is a risk of road blockages due to landslides on Shigar Valley Road, Skardu Road, Deosai Road, and the Karakoram Highway.

NDMA has directed the relevant authorities to remain on high alert along sensitive highways and in mountainous regions.

Tourists and travelers are advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling to northern areas.

The public is encouraged to obtain timely updates through the official NDMA app, "Pak NDMA Disaster Alert."
