Govt prioritizes strengthening national food security: Tanveer
November 03, 2026

Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has commended farmers for achieving an impressive wheat yield of seventy maunds per acre, describing it as a remarkable achievement for the country's agricultural sector.

He was addressing the “Sarsabz Ki Jeet” event, organized by Fatima Fertilizer in Lahore to recognize and celebrate the achievements of high-performing wheat farmers.

The Minister said increased per-acre productivity would not only strengthen national food security but also create opportunities for wheat exports and valuable foreign exchange earnings.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said government priorities include increasing per-acre productivity, reducing production costs, improving farmers' incomes and strengthening national food security. In this regard, the government has introduced a comprehensive National Wheat Policy, which includes a proposed wheat support price of 4,500 rupees per maund and a strategy to maintain strategic reserves of up to six million metric tonnes to safeguard national requirements.
