
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb says the PEMRA Amendment has been enacted to promote responsible journalism in the country.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, she expressed her gratitude to media workers and stakeholders for supporting the PEMRA Amendment bill, which has been approved by the National Assembly.
The Information Minister said the media, through a self-regulatory move, has joined hands with the government to make ‘misinformation and disinformation’ as part of the bill.
She said the scope of public service messaging has been widened in the amended PEMRA bill.
The Information Minister said the government wants to provide entertainment to people at affordable cost and for this purpose, it has decided to build cinema houses in the premises of Radio Pakistan, PTV and SRBC.
She said the state broadcasters like Radio Pakistan, PTV and SRBC are assets of the nation and their revival would boost the industry.
