Trade activity at Pakistani ports accelerated due to ongoing conflict in Gulf region
June 03, 2026

Trade activity at Pakistani ports has accelerated due to the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region and disruptions in maritime shipping routes.

According to Arab News, Hutchison Ports Pakistan said that new cargo shipments will arrive in Pakistan through several ships. Two ships have already reached the port, while a third vessel is expected to arrive during the first week of June.

Hutchison Ports’ terminal in Karachi will handle four thousand additional trans-shipment containers.

Arab news reported that due to disruptions in the Gulf region, international shipping companies are increasingly viewing Pakistan’s ports as an alternative route.

According to maritime authorities the Gulf crisis has led to a notable increase in the utilization of not only Karachi Port but also Gwadar Port, where operational activity has risen from twenty percent to thirty percent.

They said berthage fee has been reduced by twenty-five percent, international transshipment cargo charges by forty percent and transit cargo charges by thirty-one percent to make Gwadar Port more attractive.
