PM directs Pakistan Railways to keep fares unchanged
April 03, 2026

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed Pakistan Railways not to increase fares for any class.

This was stated in a press release issued by Pakistan Railways today.

It said that no fares will be increased, including those for economy and air-conditioned classes. Similarly, freight train charges will also remain unchanged to facilitate the business community.

On the Prime Minister’s directive, the government will bear an additional burden of six billion rupees until June 30 this year.

The government has decided to absorb the impact of the recent increase in diesel prices instead of passing it on to passengers.
