Two-day joint anti-submarine exercise of US, Japan, South Korea begins

The joint anti-submarine exercises of South Korea, the United States and Japan began today to better counter North Korea's evolving nuclear and missile capabilities.

South Korea's defence ministry in a statement said the two-days exercises will improve the capabilities needed to detect, track and destroy North Korean underwater threats.

Japan's top government spokesperson, Harokazu Matsuno, told reporters that the drills are meant to promote trilateral cooperation to "deal with regional security concerns.
