Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi says the Constitution of Pakistan is based on the Holy Quran and Sunnah.

Talking to newsmen in Lahore today, he said national unity is vital to defeat extremism and protect the country's constitutional order.

He said dialogue can only be held with those who accept Pakistan and its constitutional framework.

Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi also called for the removal of social media content that violates the Constitution and the country's laws.

He announced that programmes under the theme "Paigham-e-Pakistan" will be held throughout August, describing the initiative as a national consensus document.
