Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world are observing the fifth martyrdom anniversary of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the veteran leader, Syed Ali Gilani, passed away on September 1, 2021, at his residence in Srinagar, where he had been kept under continuous house arrest for over a decade.
Syed Ali Gilani throughout his life championed the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and advocated for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid heartfelt tribute to the revered Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani on his fifth martyrdom anniversary.
In their separate messages, they said his legacy of courage, dignity and steadfastness would continue to guide generations committed to justice and freedom.
They said the selfless and unparalleled struggle of Syed Ali Gilani, despite adverse circumstances and relentless state repression in IIOJK, kept the Kashmir cause alive in the hearts and minds of the Kashmiri people.
