Russia has formally announced to quit arms control treaty with the United States 'the New START Treaty'.

Russian news agency TASS reported that President Vladimir Putin has signed a law suspending Russia's participation in the only remaining arms control treaty with the US.

Putin also signed a law on the termination of international treaties of the Council of Europe with respect to the Russian Federation.

On the other hand, speaking at a session of the Conference on Disarmament, the U.S. undersecretary of state for arms control Bonnie Jenkins described Russia an irresponsible nuclear power.

She said Washington is still ready to work with Russia to fully implement the New START treaty.
