Blood sugar levels are a primary concern for people with diabetes. High blood sugar, known as hyperglycemia, occurs when a person's blood sugar is over 180 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).Moving toward a healthy weight helps control blood sugar. Control pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels will help to maintain a healthy life. Diabetes makes heart disease more likely, so keep a close eye on blood pressure and cholesterol. Regular exercise can help reach or maintain a healthy weight. Exercise also cuts stress and helps control blood pressure. Excess stress can elevate blood sugar levels.
