Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst): Afghan- led, Afghan -owned peace process is the ultimate solution to Afghan conflict. There should be an office in Afghanistan and Afghan issue should be resolved on Afghan land. Complete withdraw of US troops from Afghanistan is the legitimate demand of Taliban. There are multiple terrorists groups active in Afghanistan and unsettled Afghanistan is a constant threat to regional peace. The United States should ensure the stability of Afghanistan before complete withdrawal. The United States has admitted its failure in Afghanistan and blamed Pakistan for its defeat. Pakistan has suffered a lot in the war against terrorism and United States seldom acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices. India is using Afghan soil to destabilize Pakistan. We have seen a shift in Trump administration’s attitude towards Pakistan in recent days. Pakistan should facilitate the peace process, but not at the cost of its national interest.
