Resolutions on Kashmir and Palestine disputes exist on charter of the UN but global organization has no enforcement power

Munir Akram (Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations): United Nations is celebrating 75 years of its existence. Although it has lost its credibility, yet it remains an important forum as far as international tensions, climate change and COVID-19 impacts are concerned. We do need international collaboration to deal with the complex challenges. Although, the United Nations could not perform as per expectations, it is a fact that its principle of no use of force against other countries is vital. Without these principles the global situation could have been worse than it is now. We may observe from the time of establishment of the United Nations that no global conflict has been prevented till now. The resolutions on Kashmir dispute and Palestine exist on the charter of the UN but reality is that the global organization has no enforcement power to ensure implementation of these resolutions. It is also a global reality that world powers have influence on UN decision making. Pakistan has raised the issue of Islamophobia at UNGA forum and the Muslim countries are working on the agenda to criminalize the anti-Islam violence in the world.
